“I need you to wire payment to…”
There has been a rise of what has been dubbed “The Business Email Compromise”, in which employees are tricked, by what seems to be an email from a superior, into sending money to the people orchestrating the phishing scam. We see these when people check with us to see if they’re legitimate, but also have been involved because the employee ran into trouble when attempting to actually wire the money! It would be wise to require all employees to verify with a supervisor any request to wire money — even if it looks like it comes from the top dog!
